epa00849333 An unidentified geologist at Italy's National Geophysics Institute headquarters in Rome, indicates the evolution, recorded by a seismograph, of the earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale which rocked southern Italy on Thursday 26 October 2006, sending people running into the streets but causing no known casualties. The National Geophysics Institute said the quake was centred deep in the Mediterranean Sea. It was felt in the southern regions of Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata as well as in Messina, Palermo and other cities on the island of Sicily. Δύο ισχυροί σεισμοί που ξεπερνούν τα 5 Ρίχτερ σημειώθηκαν στο Ιόνιο Πέλαγος λίγο μετά τις 9 το πρωί της Παρασκευής (29/3).
Ο πρώτος σεισμός είχε μέγεθος 5,6 Ρίχτερ και ο δεύτερος με διαφορά ενός λεπτού 5,7 Ρίχτερ. Το επίκεντρο εντοπίζεται κοντά στις Στροφάδες ανοιχτά της Ηλείας.
