epa00849333 An unidentified geologist at Italy's National Geophysics Institute headquarters in Rome, indicates the evolution, recorded by a seismograph, of the earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale which rocked southern Italy on Thursday 26 October 2006, sending people running into the streets but causing no known casualties. The National Geophysics Institute said the quake was centred deep in the Mediterranean Sea. It was felt in the southern regions of Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata as well as in Messina, Palermo and other cities on the island of Sicily. Ασθενής σεισμική δόνηση μεγέθους 4,4 Ρίχτερ σημειώθηκε στις 9:18 ώρα Ελλάδος στη Θήβα.
Σύμφωνα με το Γεωδυναμικό Ινστιτούτο του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών, το μέγεθος του σεισμού ήταν 4,4 Ρίχτερ και το επίκεντρο της δόνησης εντοπίζεται 4 χλμ. ΝΝΔ της Θήβας.
Ο σεισμός έγινε σε απόσταση 51 χλμ. ΒΔ των Αθηνών.

Λίγο νωρίτερα, ασθενή σεισμική δόνηση με μέγεθος 4.4 στην κλίμακα Ρίχτερ κατέγραψε το σεισμολογικό δίκτυο, στις 08:54 ώρα Ελλάδος, σύμφωνα με το Γεωδυναμικό Ινστιτούτο του Εθνικού Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών. Ο σεισμός έγινε σε απόσταση 415 χλμ. ΝΑ των Αθηνών. Το επίκεντρο της δόνησης εντοπίζεται στο θαλάσσιο χώρο 24 χλμ. ΝΝΑ της Ζάκρου.
