epa00849333 An unidentified geologist at Italy's National Geophysics Institute headquarters in Rome, indicates the evolution, recorded by a seismograph, of the earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale which rocked southern Italy on Thursday 26 October 2006, sending people running into the streets but causing no known casualties. The National Geophysics Institute said the quake was centred deep in the Mediterranean Sea. It was felt in the southern regions of Puglia, Calabria and Basilicata as well as in Messina, Palermo and other cities on the island of Sicily. Ισχυρός σεισμός 5 Ρίχτερ σημειώθηκε το πρωί της Δευτέρας 4/12 στην Τουρκία.
Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία του AFAD, το επίκεντρο του σεισμού εντοπίζεται στην περιοχή Mudanya της Bursa, με το εστιακό βάθος να υπολογίζεται στα 9 χλμ.
Σύμφωνα με το Ευρωπαϊκό Μεσογειακό Σεισμολογικό Κέντρο, το επίκεντρο του σεισμού εντοπίζεται 6 χλμ. βόρειο-βορειοανατολικά της πόλης Μουδανιά, και 27 χλμ. βορειοδυτικά της Προύσας, ενώ το εστιακό βάθος υπολογίζεται στα 11 χλμ.
